There's less than one month to go until farmers across Dorset open their gates to the public for an exclusive inside view of the profession.

LEAF Open Farm Sunday offers visitors a unique chance to see what happens beyond the farm gate and show their support for British farming. There will also be a chance for the public to talk to farmers and find out more about their work.

The event, managed by Linking Environment And Farming (LEAF), takes place this year on Sunday, June 10 as part of The Great British Farm Day.

Most Open Farm Sunday events are free, and farms of every type and size are set to take take part offering a range of activities for people of all ages. At the farms, visitors can learn more about how their food is produced as well as learn about how farmers look after cows, sheep and pigs, as well as caring for wildlife.

There will also be demonstrations showing how farmers use the latest technology to farm sustainably, with the chance to look inside a state of the art tractor. On many farms, people will be able to take a farm walk or guided tractor and trailer ride and follow a nature trail.

Annabel Shackleton, LEAF Open Farm Sunday manager, said: "From the wheat for our bread and cereals, and the potatoes and pork for our sausage and mash, through to crops for fuel, clothes and even cosmetics, it all begins on a farm.

"Farmers play a vital part in our daily lives and LEAF Open Farm Sunday is your chance to be part of The Great British Farm Day and show your support for British farmers and farming."
