With soil health currently high on the agenda, farmers are looking forward to learning more about the use of cover crops at this year's Cereals Event.

Cover crops enrich the soil, and are an alternative to minimum or no-tillage systems. At the 2018 Cereals Event on Wednesday and Thursday, June 13 and 14, participants will be able to see the introduction of a new cover crop drilling demonstration. Exhibitors including Claydon Drills, Cousins of Emneth, Dale Drills and Ryetech Industrial Equipment will demonstrate their equipment on an 8-hectare area sown with a mix of cover crops.

“Cover crops have a lot of merit, particularly as they create a soil structure that facilitates direct drilling,” said Paul Brown at Frontier Agriculture and Kings. “The use of cover crops leads to a much more conducive structure for establishment."

Cereals, the leading technical event for the arable industry, will take place at Chrishall Grange Duxford near Royston in Cambridgeshire.

Robert Law, who will be hosting the Cereals Event, is a keen advocate of precision farming techniques and is passionate about protecting and improving the environment. “The introduction of a cover crops area is going to make the event as relevant as possible,” he says. “It will really help farmers get a lot more out of the event.”
