Can any Looking Back readers help Richie and Saira Sawtell put faces to the names of these youngsters from Fleet School near Weymouth in 1914?

The Sawtells were lent this wonderful picture of the old Fleet schoolchildren, which was recently discovered, among others, by a Chickerell resident.

Richie and Saira are interested in finding out more about the school because their cottage in Fleet is built on the site of the old school house.

Saira said: “It struck us as pertinent that the picture is 100 years old exactly and that the children are wearing what are presumably their family medals from other conflicts, as World War One had just broken out.

“The shield is the County Attendance Shield as Fleet School had the highest attendance rate in Dorset.”

The Sawtells would like some help from Looking Back readers to put names and family stories to the children in the picture.

They’ve already come up with some of the children's names after spending time in the archives with the old school record books.

Here’s a list of the children who were thought to have been at the school in 1914: Edward Dalley, Florrie Dalley, Freddie Dalley, Olive Vine, Ernest Vine, Sarah Vine, John Vine, HenryPaull, William Paull, Lily Paull, E Read, William Read, Harry Comben, Elsie Bird, Milly Stevens, Ethel Abbot, May Dearing, Charlie Sampson, Willie Brine, Billie Mowlam, Charlie Mowlam, Robert Mowlam, Dorothy May Parker, Laura Stockley, William Bush,Thomas Joliffe, Elsie Taylor, Freddie Dalley, Freda Maud Kinsman, Rose Fowler and Ivy Blandaman.
