A SILVER bracelet left with a Dorset couple by an American Second World War pilot has been rediscovered.

Warren Davis has found the bracelet that was given to his parents when they were at Langton Matravers.

He explained that his parents were living in the village in the 1940s and there was a training school for American pilots there.

Mr Davis said: “My parents used to cook Sunday lunch for them.

“When they were about to leave the pilots were told they couldn’t take any jewellery with them.

“This guy handed the bracelet to my mother.”

Mr Davis said that his mother never heard from the pilot again and when they attempted to trace him they were told that security measures meant no information could be given as to his whereabouts.

He said: “She just put it away and I have recently found it again.”

The bracelet feature the word ‘Mizpah’, which Mr Davis said was a popular slogan on jewellery as it was taken from Genesis and means something to the effect of ‘Lord watch over you when we are apart’.

Mr Davis said it would be interesting to know if any other people in the Swanage area had encounters with these pilots and if they were left any jewellery.
