WE’VE taken a look at memories of the Sidney Hall in Weymouth as a school, a dance hall and even as a military hospital, but now we’re going to look a bit closer at the hall’s use as a roller skate rink.

And who better to share the memories than Babs Masters of Weymouth, who used to be a roller skating instructor at the hall.

Babs said roller skating at the hall started in 1951 and ended in the 1970s.

She said: “Roller skating used to be very popular there and a lot of people came for lessons. I used to teach pupils from the age of eight.

“It was very similar to how ice skating is now. I used to make all my own outfits for skating. It was a lot of fun.”
