FOLLOWING on from the longest and largest vessel ever to enter Weymouth port, we can now reveal the last vessel to discharge from outside the Royal Dorset Yacht Club.

Last week retired Weymouth Harbour Master Peter Tambling sent us in pictures of the mammoth Kas Marianne which called in in February1989.

She was on her way home to Oslo, Norway, from the Persian Gulf.

This week Mr Tambling has sent us three more pictures of vessels at Weymouth Port.

The first photo shows the last vessel to discharge outside the Royal Dorset Yacht Club in 1992. It was the final visit by the German flagged vessel ‘Eros’. Mr Tambling said she had been a regular visitor to the port since 1987, and it was her captain's last voyage.

Mr Tambling said that prior to her departure he invited him into the club for a farewell drink.

After an evening of banter between the crews, they presented the German captain with a brace of pheasants to take back as a present for his wife.

The second photo shows the rowing ferry going across Weymouth Harbour in 1987, while the Sormovskiy 103 discharging on berth number six in the background.

The third photo is remembering the cargo ships discharging on the number six berth on the cargo stage.

The picture shows the Russian vessel in 1992 using mobile cranes provided by Portland Plant to unload.
