CAN you help Derek Pride solve a Dorchester mystery?
He has asked Looking Back to help him find out more about the distinctive clock tower on the Corn Exchange in Dorchester.
The building was originally the Town Hall, built in 1847.
The Corn Exchange and distinctive clock tower were added in the 1860s, the latter partly funded by Alderman Galpin.
In Pocket Dorchester by Chris Shaw, it says: "Since the clock had no apparent means of support, locals referred to it as Galpin's Folly and waited for it to collapse."
All these years on it is still standing!
Do you have any information about the clock tower of the Corn Exchange or perhaps you can tell us more about Alderman Galpin, the man behind 'Galpin's Folly'.
