THANKS to Bob Hind for getting in touch with these pages.

He is trying to organise a reunion of all those who worked during the last days of steam-hauled services on the Southern Railway.

Bob, a former railway guard at Woking, is hoping that he can find some people who worked at the Weymouth depot as the 50th anniversary of the end of steam approaches in July of next year. Weymouth depot was involved in the last fast steam hauled runs to London Waterloo.

Author Bob, who has written three books, is also keen to see old photos or documents from that time.

Bob said: "Last Sunday at an 80th birthday party of a former driver it was suggested I get together the remaining drivers and firemen who were involved with the last week of steam working on the Southern.

"I thought 'what a good idea but why stop there?' There must be former guards, steam raisers, coal men, fitters, etc who worked the final steam hauled services in the first week of July 1967.

Did you drive or fire to the last steam hauled services on the Southern in the first week of July 1967?

"Were you a guard who worked these services? Were you a fitter, steam raiser, coal man or one of the many other trades involved with steam operations?

"If so I would like to talk to you. I am able to visit you at your home or local hostelry perhaps. Any photographs or paperwork of interest I would also like to see."
