DORSET Police have been keeping our streets safe for generations.

Thank you to Ian Swatridge who got in touch with Looking Back to share some wonderful photos of members of the force in Dorchester in the 1950s.

His grandfather was in the police force and passed on the photographs to Mr Swatridge who has been researching Dorset Police.

He wants to find out who the other faces in the photograph may be.

Mr Swatridge said: “I know most of the officers, but finding their living ancestors would be great.”

He would like to make contact with anyone who served in Dorset Police or had relatives in the force, particularly in the last 20 years before the force amalgamated with Bournemouth in 1967.

He said: “The photographs are both from the 1950’s at Dorchester. The first photograph is taken in 1953 or 1954 at Dorchester Constabulary Police Headquarters where the officers are being presented with their Queen Elizabeth II Coronation medals.

“The second photograph is circa 1956 of the Police Assizes (crown court) squad.

“I would also like to mention some families had more than one family member serving at the time.”
