A CLUB in a Dorset village is inviting people to pay it a visit and explore its rich history.

The Spitfire club in Crossways, near Dorchester. proudly bears a plaque in memory of the 152 RAF Squadron.

In July 1940 152 squadron (1918-1967) became based at RAF Warmwell to defend Portland Naval Base, and later moved west to Portreath, Cornwall.

One year later it was escorting Bristol Blenheim on anti-shipping strikes off the Brittany coast and from mid-August 1941 moved to various airfields.

The plaque was made a reality through the tireless efforts of Rob Rooker

The members' club was built to replace The Tavern Social Club.

The club was originally found in an old Nissan hut off the land adjacent to Old Farm Way in the 1960s.

The club operated from there for a number of years, with lost of tales being told by some of the original members, about rain dripping in through the room, etc

The new club was completed in March 2012.
