THERE is a second chance to see an unique art project to commemorate the fallen of the Battle of the Somme 100 years ago.
Some 70 soldiers from the Dorsetshire Regiment
have been individually remembered in the Shrouds of the Somme.
This iconic installation will be on show from November 11 to 18 in the grounds of Bristol Cathedral.
The project aims to commemorate all 19,240 allied soldiers who fell on the first day of the battle which began on July 1, 1916.
It was on display in Exeter earlier in the year.
The names of the fallen have been marked by the artist Rob Heard who has seven volumes of the War Graves Commission’s lists of those who died.
The Dorsetshire Regiment lost the 70 men on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
Donations from the exhibition, which will be opened on Armistice Day, will be donated to Forces charity SSAFA, specifically to their Bristol branch supporting servicemen, veterans and their families in the Bristol area in times of need.
