IT'S time to enjoy another postcard from Looking Back regular Andy Hutchings.

This one shows a local MP being awarded the Honorary Freedom of the Borough on Tuesday May 12 1914 at Weymouth Pavilion.

Admiral Lord Charles William de la Poer had the unusual distinction of serving as an MP whilst a Royal Naval Officer. The borough council gave him Freedom of the Borough in recognition of his 'uniform consideration of the Borough whilst in charge of the fleet' during his service at Portland from 1907 to 1909. Preparations were authorised for a ceremony 'at a cost not exceeding £20'.
