Learn more about the bygone days of farming in Dorset with a talk by James Crowden at the Dorset History Centre in Dorchester on Thursday (26).
Sheep, Cider and Forestry - Dorset through the eyes of a casual farm worker is at 6.30 pm for a 7pm start.
James arrived in Dorset in 1980 and began a 20-year cycle of working through the seasons as a casual self employed agricultural labourer. As a shepherd, night shepherd, sheep shearer, forester, cider maker and turkey plucker he saw Dorset through farm workers’ eyes. Since then he has published a wide range of books, many of which focus on oral history.
Tickets cost £10 (members £8) and include canapés and a glass of wine.
