THE story of two young Wimborne men who were killed on the same day, just over 100 years ago, is the subject of a new exhibition in the town.

Only a Boy, at the Priest’s House Museum, will honour the men, who lost their lives during the opening hours of the Battle of Passchendaele on July 31 1917.

The display, which will run for much of April before returning later in the summer, features items from the museum’s collections and objects on loan from the descendants of the soldiers’ families, assembled by Chris Brown, the Town Mayor’s Serjant, and volunteers from the museum. The display shows a ‘snapshot’ of these two men and the tangible grief that the families had to bare.

Last week also marked the 100th anniversary of the death of another Wimborne man, Montague Randall M.M., who died on April 11. The museum was able to acquire his medals at auction and a memorial cry was given last week by Chris Brown to mark 100 years of his passing.

The museum is open daily (except Sundays) from 10am to 4.30pm. Standard admission charges apply. For further information, contact the museum on 01202 882533 or visit priest-house.co.uk.
