YOU'VE been keeping your memories coming of Weymouth's Gaumont Cinema and famous bands in Weymouth and it's been great to read them.
Thanks to Marie Foster of Weymouth for contacting Looking Back to say she attended the Hollies concert at the Gaumont in 1964 with her friend.
She recalls: "We were sat in the balcony and I can remember lots of girls screaming. I also remember going to a dance at the small Sydney Hall to see Dave Dee, Dozy, Beacky, Mick and Titch. I'm not sure of the year, maybe 1965."
We've also heard from readers online after mentioning the Genesis at gig at Weymouth Grammar School, now Budmouth College.
'Vegit8' remembers :"The pavilion ocean room regularly hosted what would now be recognised as major bands. My memory for dates is a bit hazy now but it must have been middle to late 60s. I saw Thin Lizzy, The Moody Blues and The Nice (before Keith Emerson became the keyboard player in Emerson Lake and Palmer).. possibly others."
'Yellowcave' commented: "But the best nights down there were the Weymouth nights when the line up was a mix of Blow Up, Violin Shoppe, Widow and Dishley Grange."
And 'Old Bill' remembers "Free played at the Pavilion as did Procol Harum, the Move, Pink Floyd and Van Der Graaf Generator. I also remember seeing Matching Mole at one of the Grammar School dances."
Do continue to get in touch with your memories of well known bands playing in the area.
