WE HAVE heard from quite a few Looking Back readers since we published this photo belonging to Hazel Hardy of Hardy's builders.

The building firm operated in Weymouth from the 1930s to the 1950s.

Jack Hardy, Hazel’s grandfather, ran the business. Hazel was wondering what the building was behind the workers and thought could perhaps it be the old Weymouth Fire Station?

Thanks to Sheila Hobson who said she lived at the fire station between 1938 and 1954 and said the building in the photo definitely isn’t the fire station because it had metal windows and she thought the windows in the photo were wooden.

Thanks to Hazel’s cousin Bob Hardy for getting in touch to tell us that Les Bown is in the bottom row of the picture third from the right.

We also heard from Peter Price, of Weymouth, who was used to be a messenger boy at the fire station.

And thanks to Donald Mintern, of Bowleaze Coveway, for getting in touch to tell us that his grandfather Herbert Mintern worked for Hardy’s building firm.

He said: “He did various jobs, he looked after horses and at one time her was a carter.”

n So we are still no closer to identifying the building. If anyone has any further clues get in touch with Looking Back on 01305 830973.
