THANKS to Mr Fall of Dorchester for providing Looking Back with these old photos of Dorchester, dating from 1899 to 1900.
The first is of Bridport Road in Dorchester and the second is of Cornwall Road, which runs alongside the Borough Gardens in the county town.
The gardens were laid out to a plan by William Goldring of Kew, and were opened to the public on July 30 1896.
Although never closed the gardens were ‘opened' again on May 7, 2007 by Oscar-winning local resident Julian Fellowes to mark the completion of a £1.4m plus restoration and refurbishment project funded in part by a grant of almost £1 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
* We'll be sharing a few more photos belonging to Mr Fall in coming weeks.
