THIS photo of a mass gathering in Weymouth in front of the old Pavilion Theatre dates back to 1914.

It shows the unveiling of a memorial to Weymouth-born 16th century navigator Richard Clark and his colleague John Endicott, who sailed from Weymouth in 1628.

Mrs Joseph Chamberlain unveiled the memorial on Tuesday June 2 1914. The memorial was removed to Alexandra Gardens in the mid-1950s following the Ritz fire. Following representations from the Weymouth Civic Society it was moved to a location at Ferry Steps in 2003.
