Eco-friendly nappies: a change for the better

THE eco-friendly nappy message is being spread with the help of a new roadshow touring West Dorset.

The tour begins on Monday, April 21 as part of Real Nappy Week, which aims to promote the environmental and money-saving benefits of reusable, washable nappies.

The roadshow is being run by West Dorset District Council, Dorset County Council, Lollipops nappy company and Jump Start playgroup. A range of real nappies will be on show and experts will be on hand to give advice to parents and mums-to-be.

In Dorset we throw more than 7,000 tonnes of disposable nappies into landfill every year - and they can take up to 500 years to decompose.

Leader of West Dorset District Council Robert Gould said: "I hope new parents or anyone expecting a baby will come along and find out about the benefits of real nappies. They are much cheaper than disposables and better for the environment."

The first stop on Monday is Market Place, Sherborne from 10am-2pm, followed by Willowbed Hall, Chickerell, between 10am-1.30pm on April 22; Bucky Doo Square, Bridport, between 9am-noon on April 23; the village hall, Martinstown, between 9am-noon on April 24; and Sawmills Lane, off Weymouth Avenue, Dorchester, between 9am- noon on April 25.
