We made the choice and went car-free
JUST
HOW GREEN HAVE YOU BEEN
By Ken Reed, cycling campaigner
ALTHOUGH I cycled in London I still had a car but after taking early retirement and moving to Weymouth we made a decision to go car-free.
There was a good rail service to London and it seemed the right thing to do. I suppose it's easier to do when you're older. If we go somewhere we cycle, walk, take the train or bus. If it's anything unusual we might take a taxi. We don't do any out of town shopping and instead use the local shops.
Things haven't improved for cyclists in the time we've lived here, except perhaps the Rodwell Trail. We wait with great anticipation for the improved walking and cycling measures planned for the Olympics.
As well as being car-free we compost everything we can at home and reduce the amount of waste we put out by recycling everything we can. We've also replaced our bulbs with energy-saving ones.
