Festival was wonderful - thanks very much

When a 'special occasion' comes to the harbour, from long and disappointing experience most of us long term residents stand back and let the drunks and trash take over.

Not so with last weekend's 'Dorset Seafood Festival'. Roger Dalton and his merry band of the 'Harbour Traders Association' organised a classy, lively and entertaining two days, equally good for the locals, the elderly, the young and families.

I couldn't get enough of the excellent variety of food at 'pig roast' prices and cooking smells to die for.

The 'Moving Tides Parade' was all fun, light and laughter and to top it all, (for a resident) the trash spilling out of our new, giant sized bins was cleared away that evening.

Thanks and well done folks. Roll on next year.

Colin Gross, Weymouth.

I would like to congratulate Sarah Butterworth and Maggie Footitt, on the wonderful 'Promenada along the Esplanada' puppets and galleons that fronted the Moving Tides procession on Saturday evening.

It was a great example of local artists working with young people in the community to produce one of the most imaginative and highly skilled 'carnival' processions the town has seen.

The whole procession was lovely and I hope we will have a lot more like this to look forward to during the Cultural Olympiad years. The bar has been raised!

Sally Watkins, Address supplied.

Big thanks to all the energetic and talented volunteers who built giant puppets and galleons for the Armada on the Esplanada parade on Saturday: Steve Tatler and his seagulls, Andy Sherlock, Darren West-Henry, Estelle Kelegher, Jo Carter, Tash Hamilton and the Giant Pink Squid, Ana Cavill, Margaret Naine, Gary Clarke, Melissa Hoare, Sam Childs.

Sarah Butterworth, Lead Artist, Armada on the Esplanada, Moving Tides Procession.
