Help to save lives - display a house number

5:10pm Monday 29th June 2009

I was recently approached by the ambulance service concerned that they often cannot find the address when responding to an emergency call because the occupant has failed to place a house number on the property.

This can be made worse late at night when poor street lighting also adds to the problem of identifying the correct property.

We cannot force people to place a clear street number on their properties, however, they might like to consider whether by failing to clearly identify their property they could be placing a member of their family at risk.

Often the speedy action of the paramedics or the ambulance service could save a life.

Wasting time running up and down a road late at night trying to identify the house belonging to the caller could result in delay placing a life being put at risk.

For the sake of a couple of pounds to place a street number which is clearly visible may one day be a life saver for a member of your family.

Think of the emergency services and your family is it worth that risk.
