On behalf of Brit Valley Rotary Club can I please thank local residents and visitors for their support of our efforts during National Rotary week which ended on Saturday, February 27.
The focus of the week was to raise funds to eliminate world polio by immunisation of children in the four countries in which it still remains (Nigeria, Afghanistan, India and Pakistan).
This ongoing project is supported by Rotary clubs around the world and all efforts are enhanced by the Bill and Melissa Gates Foundation, which more than matches all monies raised by Rotary.
The total target for the project of almost $500million (US) is within reach. Brit Valley Rotary Club held a book stall in Bucky Doo Square on a Saturday morning and ran a bric-a-brac stall in Beaminster all week.
Thanks to local support we raised £435 at these events. This money will inoculate more than 2,000 young children from the threat of polio.
Our thanks are also due to the Bugler Family in Beaminster for kindly letting us use their old showroom for the week and to Phill Morris at the Mortgage Centre in Bridport who kindly let us use his window for a static display of posters.
