Election voters have plenty of choice

Oh dear! Oh dear! The Tories are in a tizz. Even Lord Ashcroft’s money couldn’t swing it in east or South Dorset last time, so Ian Bruce is wooing Roy Child and UKIP to help win back the South Dorset seat (Your Say, March 2).

And what can he offer? Complete withdrawal from the EU – UKIP’s aim? I doubt!

Cameron has already left the major right-wing power group and joined up with a rag-bag of small, extreme right-wing organisations, jettisoning any influence they might have had.

In the great depression of the 1920s and 1930s European countries embarked on a spate of competitive devaluations and revaluations that ended in the Second World War.

Is that how the Conservatives and UKIP want the present financial crisis to end?

One of the Tories’ greatest prime ministers, Winston Churchill, is quoted as saying ‘jaw jaw is better than war war’, possibly in one of his more ‘liberal’ moments.

That’s what the EU is about. By co-operation, peace has been kept in Europe for over 50 years and even extended to and beyond the Russian border.

Finally, methinks all us honest taxpayers should ensure the noble lord’s tainted money fails once again. There’ll be plenty of choice.

Ken Milward, Spa Avenue, Weymouth

Our marginal seat seems to be on all parties wish-lists these days, with all supporters making claim and counter-claim.Will Mr Knight withstand the Bruce/Child alliance,or will Mr Milwards Libs score a break-through? As he says, there's plenty of choice.

Unfortunately I think Ken Milward is wrong when he says we have plenty of choice when we only have two real parties in contention, and even if you do include the Liberals I don’t think any of them offer what the British public want. Things like a referendum on membership of the E.U or dealing with immigration in an effective way or even getting to grips with our law and order problems like our ineffective police force or our laughable justice system. All of our politicians have forgotten that they are supposed to serve us the general public but most of them are so far up their own backsides that we no longer count. So to suggest that we have plenty of choice is nothing short of hilarious I would like to see a hung parliament and see what sort of job they could make of it because on a local level the people of Weymouth were quite happy with a hung council until all the shenanigans’ gave control to the Tories and what a mess that has turned out.

Looks like Labour has already won on the funding stakes. Ashcroft hasn't given a penny to the South Dorset Tories while Labour has had £6,500 from Unite, £7,500 from GMB Union, £2,010 from Unison, £7,850 from Graham Cole, £5,000 from Jim Draper, £1,200 from Morgan Roberts a lobbying company and nearly £200,000 from the Labour club and selling their premises. That's without the fact Jim Knight has bought printing equipment and 5 computers for the Labour Party and provided a full time Campaign Co-ordinator all out of money provided by the tax payer.

Should that be Ashcroft hasn't given a penny so far? He gave £29,000 last election. But that's what British politics has come down to now isn't it? Money, bankrupt ideology from all parties and more money. Stuff the people of this country. Plenty of choice at the next election? Yeah, you can choose Nu-Labour - a bunch of lying, cheating hypocrites whose priorities seem to be the good of the party and to stuff their bank accounts with expenses, Conservative - a bunch of lying, cheating hypocrites whose priorities seem to be the good of the party and to stuff their bank accounts with expenses or Liberal - a bunch of lying, cheating hypocrites whose priorities seem to be the good of the party and to stuff their bank accounts with expenses. I would like to see a hung Parliament (and Council) as well but maybe not with the same definition of hung.
