I have no sympathy whatever for dog owners regarding the banning of dogs from certain areas and the compulsory use of leads as it is a personal choice to keep a pet.
Based on the number of droppings I regularly have the misfortune of stepping in, I would say that the majority of owners are not responsible.
Besides which, the public health issue should not just be about faeces.
If I were to urinate in the street I would be arrested and charged and rightly so, yet how many gallons of foul smelling dog urine are left on the streets of our town every day?
The keeping of dogs as pets serves no purpose in the modern world.
The fact that drug dealers are the only people who keep them for their original domestic purpose (defence and intimidation) should be enough to warrant consigning this ridiculous and anti-social practice to the dustbin of history.
