Oil spill would be disaster for town

Weymouth is for the most part a tourist town, the beach and Jurassic Coast being the main attractions.

However, when you look out in the bay there a huge ships refuelling day and night which is surely risking a leak or spill.

Yet yards away you have an enclosed commercial harbour with entrances that could be sealed in the event of a leak or accident.

Otherwise, it’s one incident and Weymouth and the coast would be blighted with black oil sludge for many years.

if there was an oil spill it is easier to contain with booms in the open water as opposed to the breakwaters being contaminated.

True. You need to disperse the oil not contain it.
