I would like to compliment the Westham Cops community group on the tremendous fete and display of local history that they put on for the Westham 125 party.
More than 500 people were splendidly entertained for the afternoon with activities, ranging from steam engines, fire engines, police dog handling, Weymouth Concert Brass and Westham majorettes.
However, the most popular venue was the exhibition of Westham's history. There was a range of old photos, family histories, school history, artefacts from the old Adelaide Hotel and general information about the growth of Westham over the last 125 years.
As mayor I would like to give my particular thanks to Chris Edwards who chairs Cops, and to Andy and Sam Spracklen, who between them oversaw the major aspects of the celebration.
In the evening there was a talking heads presentation of the past and present followed by a musical entertainment.
There are going to be further excavations of the old Anzac camp at Westham and I know Cops would like some further volunteers to support activities in the area.
Congratulations to everyone who helped out and provided their local community with such a good day.
David Harris, Mayor of Weymouth and Portland.
