Selfish attitude among more senior citizens
I was astounded at the unbelievably selfish attitude adopted by your interviewees in the article Panic at pumps over petrol shortage fears' (Echo, April 28).
The people interviewed were largely retired, not therefore having to make essential journeys as most do to work.
"Voicing concerns" as one retiree had the audacity to do - whilst filling up - about those that need fuel for business and to travel to work demonstrates a selfishness almost beyond belief!
This woman then had the insensitivity to comment I'll use my FREE bus pass if petrol becomes unavailable'.
Another 80-year-old displayed unusual logic with the comment, I don't think that there is a need to panic - I came out because I'll need the petrol to make sure I've got plenty in my tank'.
If you only 'need' to know it's there rather than to use it for essential journeys you may well deprive someone who really needs it!
Often it is the same sector of our society that complains and moans about the current standards, discipline, pension, youth etc.
I suggest you examine your own attitudes first perhaps whilst enjoying free countrywide bus travel.
Dominic O'Connor,
Dorchester.
