Art exhibition for military heroes

ART lovers will be hailing heroes from the armed forces at an event in Dorset.

The Art For Heroes exhibition and sale will be staged at the Digby Church Hall, Digby Road, Sherborne, from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, May 31.

Entrance is free and all profits will be donated to the charity Help for Heroes.

Liz Burt, who owns the Sherborne gallery Images In Art, aims to raise the profile of Help for Heroes from the event.

Art For Heroes was inspired by Liz's son, Matthew Murray, who was killed, aged 20, while on exercise with the British Army in Canada in 2006.

Matthew was based at Tidworth with 6 Battalion Reme, and previously a student at St Antony's Leweston and the Gryphon School.

One of his paintings, a self-portrait in the style of Picasso's Child With Dove, is being used to promote the event.

Some £3,000 has already been raised.
