Bus driver attacked by passenger

A MAN who tried to use an out of date child's bus pass attacked the driver who confiscated it from him, police said.

The attack happened while the First bus was picking up passengers at a stop in Weston Road on Portland.

PC Rob Adams said around seven or eight people had been waiting at the bus stop, with the alleged assailant being third in line.

PC Adams said the man presented the pass to the driver of the number one service between Weymouth and Portland.

The driver pointed out that it was out of date and confiscated the pass before the passenger threw a handful of loose change at his head and fled.

The driver suffered pain but did not require hospital treatment.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested and released on bail while inquiries continue.

Witnesses and anyone with information about the attack, which happened last Sunday (May11), can call police on 01305 222222.
