A NEW plea has been made to find the Nothe Fort hippies.

People who used to break into the site in the 1960s and 1970s before it opened as a tourist attraction are being sought to take part in a film about the fort's colourful history.

The appeal is being made as another video is made available for readers to view on the Dorset Echo website.

It focuses on the period when the fort was derelict and attracted hippies, graffiti artists and vandals. Footage from decades ago is shown alongside images of how the site looks today.

Historian Stuart Morris from Portland made the film and showed it to fort volunteers recently.

He says some of the images from his piece will be used in the forthcoming film.

For the latest production Weymouth Civic Society is making a series of films about the Nothe and its history to show in its cinema area which is being funded by a National Lottery grant.

Fort director David Joy said: "When we began to restore the fort it was badly smashed up and covered in graffiti, so we thought it would be nice to include a piece in one film about this."

Anyone able to help the fort with its film can contact Mr Joy on 01305 766626.
