A CANNON roared as crowds gathered to watch the annual Victorian Military Festival at Weymouth's Nothe Fort.
The all-day event included appearances by the Nothe Fort Artillery Volunteers and the Fort Cumberland Guard.
Visitors saw military drill, musket firing and were warned to cover their ears when the Fort's cannon boomed out in a cloud of smoke.
Spectators were also given a glimpse of what military life was like a century ago with a chance to ask "soldiers" questions about what they did and what equipment they used.
Fort spokesman Brian Sneddon said: "We had something new this year with a chance for people to see two new videos about how and why the Fort was built with details of its history right up until it closed in 1961.
"The videos help give people a much better idea of the history of the Fort. The Festival itself went very well and we were very pleased at the turn-out despite less than perfect weather conditions."
