ROMAN centurions will fight it out with medieval knights, 17th century soldiers and Zulus in a showdown at Lulworth Castle.

The warriors - from re-enactment societies - will be clashing in the new Historic Combat Festival on September 13 and 14.

Visitors will be able to walk through time' and discover life from the past in living history' camps.

One hundred enthusiasts in authentic costume stage combat displays as well as music, dance, crafts and cooking.

The Star Gun Company will give a display of artillery through the ages.

Organiser Dave Allan, from the Pike and Shot Tour and Event Company, said: "Lulworth Castle offers the ideal backdrop for visitors to get stuck into the history of England.

"You will be able to step back in time and witness first hand the living conditions in the encampments with re-enactors in authentic costume waiting to answer your questions and explain the crafts and equipment they will be using".
