A BABY boom at a Dorchester fence company has left a third of its workforce expecting tots in the coming year.

Six fencers and labourers out of 15 members of staff at the Stag showroom have announced that they are eagerly awaiting new arrivals.

First time dad-to-be Graham Pearce, 29, said: “My partner Kiri Nicklin and I are expecting a little girl, who’s due on September 6.

“We’re very excited. It’s a bit weird that we’re all expecting babies at the same time her, and we’ve had a lot of stick about it.

“We had about two announce it before I did and then three after.”

Fencer Graham, who has worked at Stag on and off for 10 years, said a crèche would ‘go down very well’ at their ‘brand new showroom’ in Alington Road.

He added: “We must be the most fertile company in Dorchester.”

Previously the family-run sheds and fencing business was based in Icen Way in the county town.

Other first-time dads-to-be include Jake Entwistle and brothers Daniel and Christopher Andrews, while Pete Deans and Andrew Southern are already fathers and looking forward to new additions to their families.

Secretary of the company Holly Davis joked that she and their boss had been banned from drinking from the tap in case it was ‘something in the water’.

She said: “We’ve got about 15 staff – mostly men – and six are going to be dads.

“We’ve never had this before and they’re all due about the same time, between August and October.”

Holly said the staff reckoned that if the company built a crèche it would make a fortune.

She added: “We just opened in our new premises this Easter and they’ve all been coming into work saying they’re going to be daddies.

“I think we were the first to know because they’re all so excited.”
