Glastonbury stage for Billy Bragg

Singer Billy Bragg is to curate his own stage at this summer’s Glastonbury Festival in Somerset, it has been announced.

The musician, who lives in Burton Bradstock, will be booking the bill for the Leftfield tent which returns this year after being axed in 2009.

The area is designed to add a political edge to the music and discussions at the festival, which takes place at the end of June.

Bragg, who launches his first theatrical show Pressure Drop in London next month, explained his role would be ‘a bit of everything: curator, MC, performer, guitar roadie and juggler’.

He said it was important to bring back a political dimension to the event.

I have met Billy Bragg, hes great - but what does 'curate his own stage ' mean exactly - has he turned to religion? (though his sermons are pretty good!).

Why is it necessary to introduce a political element ?

It's a music festival, not a political rally.

Excellent news that the leftfield is returning, what replaced it Williams Green was a disaster.
Glastonbury has it's place in educating society for the better and not in the form of capitalist greed.
For Duckorange you've obviusly never been Glastonbury always has been much more than a music festival

I cannot begin to wonder why anybody would pay to listen to billy Bragg. His tired old sermons from the vaults of "old Style Labour" have little relevance nowadays, & if that wasn't boring enough, when they are spouted by a champaign socialist, enjoying a very comfortable lifestyle, they stretch all the boundaries of credibility.
