POLICE are hoping a woman who was driving towards Chickerell when she stopped to let the boys cross the road will contact them.
PC Katherine Rupp, of Weymouth police, said George was pushing his bike with his 11-year-old friend.
She said: “They stopped near the junction with Freemantle Road to cross when a maroon or burgundy coloured car – which may have been a Honda and contained two men – stopped alongside them.
“A man got out of the passenger side of the car and engaged the boys in conversation before grabbing the rear of the cycle, taking it from the young owner and placing it into the car before they drove off.”
The thief is described as white, aged in his mid-to-late thirties and five ft eight in to five ft ten in tall.
He is of medium build with short, dark brown hair and is clean shaven with a ‘spotty’ complexion.
He walked with a slight limp and was wearing a black waist length jacket, black jeans and black trainers.
The red mountain bike is described as looking like a motocross motorbike with a number 12 plaque on the handlebars and a mud shield on the rear.
PC Rupp wants to speak to the woman driver and anyone with information about the robbery or the bike.
