Billionaire's superyacht causes a stir in Weymouth Bay

A SUPERYACHT owned by the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft, Paul Allen, is causing a stir in Weymouth Bay.

The 303ft Tatoosh boasts two helicopter decks, a cinema and swimming pool in addition to the owner’s stateroom, nine guest staterooms, and two staff cabins.

Built by Nobiskrug in 2000, the superyacht which can accommodate 24 guests and 35 crew, underwent a refit in 2010.

Tatoosh is currently up for sale with Fraser Yachts luxury yachting company for a reported $162million.

The 26th-largest superyacht in the world was reportedly purchased by Paul Allen in 2001 for $100million.

The sale of the Tatoosh would leave Mr Allen with just one yacht: the 416ft yacht Octopus.

Octopus has also visited Weymouth and Portland and was last seen moored at Portland Port in 2005.

Tatoosh, which has a 15 knot cruising speed and a range of 5,000 nautical miles, arrived in Weymouth Bay on Christmas Day. Its last known port was Brunsbuettel, Germany.

I can't wait not to look out for it (:o)) along with the £500000 barge load of rocks (which could have been supplied more cheaply from existing stocks on Portland)

What I meant to infer was that a boat is a boat, the Echo don't write an article about other boats parked in weymouth Bay, so what is so exciting about this one. I can't envisage crowds of people rushing up Bowleaze Coveway to stand on the cliff-tops looking for a glimpse of this boat or the one filled with very expensive rocks which will be parked below the cliffs next year.

Gosh, someone actually reads these comments and acts upon them.
Well done Echo!

Paul Allen is, it seems, proudly not green. Nor am I green (with envy). Where is the Echo’s point? Was the stir about the chance to buy it? Was the stir from eco-warriors? It is not even worthy of the Guinness Book of Records. No clue!

It's just a big boat in the bay.
We used to have aircraft carriers out there which carried more than 2 helicopters.

What is there in Portland to spend money on?

jughead says...

There have been occaisions when cruise liners have visited Portland and on every visit they have been met by a fleet of coaches and whipped off, not to Weymouth to help our failing economy or round Portland to help theirs - but to the New Forest or Stonehenge for a whistle stop tour then straight back on board and sail off elsewhere.

I was born here in late 1960s and lived here on and off since then and frankly the only thing i can say about weymouth is,run by the masonic fraternity and nothing more then low paid jobs here in comparison to overprice housing which is why im a freelancer in IT having to commute to M4 belt ever day irrespective of the green fanatics who live in la la land.

I don't think you should be driving to the M4 today, judging by that comment I think you might still be quite a bit over the limit

TheNo1Portlander has still not found that elusive 'Caps Lock' key to turn off his 'SHOUTING'.
He said that he does it because caps are easier to read.
Either he 'shouda gone to specsavers' or if he holds down the control key and presses the + key, his text will increase in size, then he should go to the Preferences for his chosen browser and set the Font Size to be larger.
Here endeth the lesson (:o))
