WEYMOUTH youngster Max Price is back home with his family nearly three weeks after his failed transplant operation.

The battling three-year-old from Weymouth, who suffers from chronic renal failure, left Evelina Children’s Hospital in London, where he went under the knife to have a new kidney, on Monday and spent the night in Southampton Hospital.

After initially making good progress, complications arose and Max had to have the donor organ removed last week.

Mum Michelle, who has been in London with Max and his dad Shaun, said that despite it not going as planned she was glad to be home as they arrived back on Tuesday.

She said: “He was transferred to Southampton on Monday and initially we were going to take him straight home but he was a bit sore from the journey and he had high blood pressure, which turned out to be anxiety.”

Max stayed in Southampton overnight but the medical team were happy for him to come home yesterday.

The family are now looking forward to spending some time together as Max is reunited with siblings Chloe, Jack and Kacey and they look forward to having Max home for his fourth birthday on February 2.

She said: “We all need a little normality and family time.”

Michelle also praised the team at the Evelina Children’s Hospital for their support.

She said: “The team have been amazing and we cannot praise them enough.

“They put our thoughts and feelings first at every opportunity and that is just what they do – they’re the best hospital in the country for renal transplants and it shows.”

Max will eventually be on the lookout for another donor organ so he can try again for a transplant.

In the meantime he will be on dialysis and needs to attend hospital three times a week.

How you can help out

The Echo is appealing for anyone who can help support Max’s family with their ongoing care for him by dropping in donations to its offices at the Granby Industrial Estate in Weymouth or Antelope Walk in Dorchester.

Max faces an agonising wait to see if a donor kidney becomes available and the costs of his care and hospital trips are mounting up.
