Weymouth Pavilion theatre to stay open

WEYMOUTH Pavilion theatre will stay open after councillors agreed to a £60,000 funding package.

Members of the borough council’s management committee yesterday voted to press ahead with the funding proposal.

I just saw on ITV local news about the Pavilion staying open. Good news to us locals.
The report mentioned a Sir Andy Blackwood, (a councillor). There apears to be no such a name on the register of Knighted people. This, I may add, is not the first time we have been caught out as the Echo Staff can confirm.
Does anyone know what is going on?

with regards to the last question. Yes we are gunna get royaly screwed and end up paying for this. Which if you use the smelly aincient dump is fine.Personally I prefer the B.I.C

this is the biggest white elephant in dorset why is this council still throwing money at it surely enough is enough.they cant even run a cafe properly,shut for half the week.listen to councellor farrell about the only one to talk sense.o i nearly forgot its for those wretched olympics that nobody wants.

Sorry can't agree with the 1st part of your comment. It's actually the 2nd biggest Whit Elephant behind that Tool Coe and his Olympric's

I think it would be a real shame if the Pavilion closed. We go several times every year to watch shows. What I can't understand is, if the Corn Exchange in Dorchester can get Jack Dee, why can't the Pavilion?? Also I believe the revenue made from the car park doesn't go to the Pavilion but to the Council, this would surely help the financial situation.

I think a bonus scheme should be considered for the person who is in charge of running the Pavilion at this time.

If it makes a profit, however small, by this time next year then a bonus should be paid (provided that it is not a higher sum than the profit made).

If it makes a loss, however small or large, sack the person in charge and all of their staff.

Then put the Pavilion out to tender so that a private company can take it over. At least we will then be guaranteed some sort of income, even if a loss is made.

The council has proved over many years that they don't have anyone who is capable of running a theatre complex, so lets at least try to find someone who has the ability to do so.

The council doesnt have enough nous to run a hotdog stall let alone any enterprise like the Pavilion. The dead hand of council bureaucracy and the endless recharges from the offices on North Quay will ensure it never makes a profit. Perhaps the Echo could analyse the Pavilion accounts, a few weeks ago Mike Burt was calling for the books to be opened. It will then be obvious what a handicap the complex is working under. And yes Councillor Farrell wants to close and demolish the Pavilion so that the new property developer, son of Howerd Holdings, can build highrise flats there instead. Its time for rather more transparency- but councillors will continue to hide the truth from the public.
