A WOMEN’S Festival is being held with events and activities over a week in Bridport in March.
The Bridport Feminist Network is organising the extravaganza from March 4 to 11 to celebrate women’s achievements and their progress towards equality. It is timed to co-incide with International Women’s Day on March 8.
Madeleine Morey, speaking on behalf of the group, said: “We started off by thinking we should plan just one event for International Women’s Day.
“There was such an enthusiastic response, especially from Bridport Arts Centre.
“We’ve ended up with a whole week of events in various venues throughout the town.”
Events include concerts, discussions, workshops, walks, talks, films, exhibitions and dances.
Madeleine said: “At the arts centre, there’s even an instant play about the suffragettes.
“Entry is free but you may be given a part to read.”
The network is a group of about fifteen local women who meet monthly in The Ropemakers.
The group receives no funding for the festival. Members are hoping to meet some of the promotion costs with a sale of second-hand books in Bucky Doo Square on March 10.
