Relief road on track for award

THE Weymouth Relief Road has been nominated for an award.

Skanska’s scheme for Dorset County Council, which was completed last year, has been nominated for the regional Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) Civil Engineering Project of the Year Award.

The £89million road was designed to improve journey reliability between Dorchester and Weymouth.

There are a record 24 entries in this year’s awards and other Dorset entries include Charmouth Footbridge, Twin Sails Bridge Link Road in Poole and Slades Farm Cycle Track, Bournemouth.

ICE South West Regional Director Trish Johnson said: “The objective of the awards is to recognise construction projects completed in 2011 of particular merit, physical achievement, innovation or ingenuity.”

ICE South West’s 2012 Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony will be held at the Marriott Royal Hotel in Bristol on Friday.

I am sure that all those folk queueing every morning from half way up the hill all the way to Dorchester will be delighted. BTW , thats the people who used to queue from manor roundabout to littlemoor lights....

Yes! The relief road is brilliant. It deserves an award. What a shame that the cost was so inflated due to the detractors over many years. Why were even London councillors allowed to object and delay! The ASDA junction is something else. Certainly not designed for safety!!!

Agree the relief is a god send it has reduced my travel time significantly! Just need to survive the pain of the Olympics and it might just be worth it!
