A35 Dorchester-Bridport reopened westbound

THE A35 has been re-opened westbound between Dorchester and Bridport, says the Highway Agency.

The road had been closed since the weekend due to extensive flooding in the Winterbourne Abbas area.

The flow of traffic on the westbound route will be controlled with temporary traffic lights and a temporary speed limit of 30 mph will be in place.

The eastbound route, from Bridport to Dorchester, remains closed.

The reopening of the road means the Olympic Torch Relay can stick to its scheduled route through Dorset this afternoon.

No surprise there then. Heaven forbid that the torch relay should have to divert.

Portland G sounds very self-centered. He obviously doesn't have children in the Winterbourne Abbas area who have been looking forward to this event for months.

If the traffic is in one direction only, why the need for traffic lights?

It's because there are some who think because they don't like something that they hold the majority view and have to tell the world.

I'm with Portland G on this one. Never mind pulling out all the stops for ordinary people needing to travel every day on our main route between Bridport and Dorchester for the last 5 days and having to take two hours to complete a half hour journey. Oh no. But heaven forfend there should be any civic embarrassment over the Olympic Torch farrago - presto! road open!

Dont worry it will shut again tomorrow - after it has served it's purpose.

I don't understand why traffic can travel in one direction but not the other, especially if they have traffic lights. What are these traffic lights supposed to do except impede the flow of traffic?
