WYVERN School is one of three schools in Weymouth to receive a prestigious Artsmark award.
Artsmark is a national award scheme which is managed by Arts Council England to emphasise quality arts provision so every young person has the opportunity to experience the richness of the arts.
The award was given to the specialist school which provides highly individualised education for up to 86 pupils aged two-19 years with complex learning difficulties.
The music, art, drama and dance departments at Wyvern worked extra hard this year when compiling the college’s application as creative learning is such an important part of the school’s development.
Headteacher Sue Hoxey said: “We were very excited to get the award as we put a huge amount of work into embedding the arts into our curriculum and after school activities.
“Art is not just about painting and drawing for our students, it is a means of communication and an important part of our school curriculum as it develops the children’s personal and social skills.”
Sue would also like to say thank you to Kelly Stinton who is the arts subject leader at the college.
