A FREE fireworks event on Weymouth seafront is set to provide an explosive official welcome for the London 2012 Paralympic sailing events in the borough.
Weymouth’s international firework display, organised by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council and operated by Pain’s Fireworks, will take place this bank holiday Monday, August 27, at 9.30pm.
The day will also see the arrival and celebration of the Weymouth and Portland Paralympic Flame, with events based in the ICCI 360 Arena on the Weymouth Pavilion forecourt.
The Paralympic sailing events will be held on the waters of Portland Harbour from Saturday, September 1 to Thursday, September 6.
Councillor Ian Bruce, the borough council’s tourism and culture spokesman, said: “The fireworks are one of Weymouth’s most cherished summer events, and a great highlight of the resort’s year.
On the fireworks display night, there will also be a free entry £500 cash draw.
Entry forms can be found in the Dorset Echo newspaper or available on the evening from the draw table in Alexandra Gardens with the completed forms put in the competition box between 7pm and 9pm.
