GROW your own and save wildlife – two local organisations have teamed up to launch an ‘Incredible Edibles’ scheme in the county town.

Dorset Wildlife Trust and Transition Town Dorchester will hold an event on October 29 in the Dorchester Wildlife Garden.

There will also be an opportunity to make a bird or bug box, discover minibeasts in the garden, or visit the Transition Town ducks.

The scheme, which encourages families to grow their own vegetables, fruit and herbs, is part of an initiative to help halt the decline of garden-friendly animals, such as the hedgehog.

Joy Wallis, community conservation officer for DWT said: “This ‘grow your own’ scheme will be great for the local community to share.” If you would like to volunteer to help the project, come along to the event which is being held behind All Saints Church, opposite the King’s Arms in High East Street on Tuesday, October 29 from 2pm until 4pm.
