GYM users at Dorchester Sports Centre have been working out with some of the best state-of-the-art equipment following a £223,000 investment.

The chief executive of West Dorset District Council Matt Prosser and the chairman of WDDC Cllr Gillian Summers were part of a group who were among the first to try out the new gym facilities as they toured the site following the reopening.

1610 Ltd, which operates Dorchester Sports Centre on behalf of WDDC, made the investment and the centre was closed for five days while work was undertaken.

New technology allows users access to their personal fitness data as well as integrated social media, TV and internet systems, from inside and outside the gym.

It boasts the latest iCloud technology installed on cardio vascular equipment providing an integrated android platform so users can access the internet, various apps, as well as TV while working out on the treadmill or on other cardio gym stations.

The new Technogym technology also allows users to monitor their fitness via a Wellness Key so they can access an online account where they can monitor their personal fitness information, and track their progress with weight, blood pressure and cardiovascular fitness. As well as the new Technogym equipment the gym has also been redesigned with a new layout and flooring installed.

General manager of Dorchester Sports Centre Kenny Brown said: “Although the temporary closure of the gym has meant some inconvenience for members we are sure that they will appreciate the new improvements and especially the new technology now at their disposal.

“They have access to some of the leisure industry’s leading state-of-the-art equipment which will vastly improve their work out experience. “With access to a range of social media, apps and internet our customers will be better connected and informed about their fitness and so they can improve and monitor their training.”

Cllr Summers said: “We are pleased to be able to support Dorchester Sports Centre.

“It is great to have such a fantastic leisure facility in our district.

“It is great news that the sports centre’s customer numbers have increased which shows its popularity.”
