A POIGNANT drama about family relationships will be performed in Dorchester next month.

Dorchester Drama is staging Generations Apart by Peter Gordon at the Sunninghill Community Centre on Thursday April 9, Friday April 10 and Saturday April 11 at 7.30pm.

This is the drama group’s 52nd year of putting on entertainment for Dorchester and the surrounding area.

Generations Apart is set on a cliff top in the Isle of Wight, both in 1969 and 1996.

Having met Anne in 1969 during the Summer of Love music festival, Paul decides to shed his conservative life on the island, rejecting his parents and fiancée to run off with Anne to her commune on the mainland.

However, circumstances force him to reconsider.

The play explores the relationship between the couple both in 1969 and 1996, when Anne returns to the island with her daughter Julie.

Parallels are drawn between Paul’s relationship with his father Albert in 1969 and with his own son Al in 1996.

This touching and humorous play looks sympathetically at the relationships between the generations.

It shows how the actions of one far off summer weekend can have ripples and repercussions for three generations of one family.

Tickets are £8 in advance from Trinity Stores, Trinity Street, Dorchester, and are available by calling 01305 265758.

They are £9 on the door, and £5 for under 18s.

The cast are currently rehearsing with director Ann Ottaway.

The cast is: Young Anne: Harriet Still, Young Paul: Tom Horsington, Albert: Steve Twinn, Olive: Felicity Morgan, Anne: Monica Hunt, Paul: Ian Farley, Al: Jonny White and Julie: Ellie Martin.

The group is looking for new members for on stage and backstage roles. See dorchesterdrama.org.uk
