DORSET Community Funding Action fair is to return for its fourth year despite a lack of government funding.

The fair provides opportunities for Dorset-based voluntary community groups and social enterprises to meet face to face with funders and seek advice and guidance on how to produce better and more competitive applications. The groups can also receive advice on how to develop a realistic income plan for their future.

DCA’s Community Advisor Jayme Reaves who is organizing the event said: “This year’s Funding Fair promises to be the biggest yet with over 20 funders and support organizations showcasing in the Market Place. With 13 different workshops to choose from, local groups can think creatively and find the right funding for their work”.

In an attempt to keep the costs of the event down, Dorset Community Action are charging just £20 per person from a voluntary community group, charity or social enterprise and £30 for a statutory body. There are also a few subsidised spaces left for groups with few resources upon application.

Liz McGaw who runs the Zest Community Café in Sherborne, which provides support for vulnerable and isolated people of all ages, said that since the fair lost its funding from Dorset County council last year, they had struggled to keep going.

She added:”The Funding Fair will give a small group like ours a real chance to learn new ways to get money and continue the service for our clients”.

The Dorset Community Action Funding Fair will take place on Monday may 18 at the Dorford Centre on Bridport Road, Dorchester.
