THE EARLY bird can still get the best discounts on a charity walk after the organisers extended the application deadline.

The Weldmar Midnight Walk 2015 will take place on Saturday July 18, but don’t worry if you haven’t signed up yet. The Early Bird registration fee rates have been extended by the organisers until May 10. That means you still have time to make the most of the discounted entry rates for the 5, 6.5, or 10 mile challenge.

The early fees for over 18s is currently £16, with under 18s at £14. After May 10 the adult price will go up to £18.

So far more than 300 ladies have signed up for the charity walk, which sees participants light up the night with flashing head gear as they walk the different routes from Weymouth College around the town.

The registration fee covers all admin fees and walkers get their own 2015 Midnight Walk t-shirt, refreshments during and after the walk, flashing head wear, a goodie bag and a whole evening of entertainment.

Over the last eight years, the Midnight Walk has had over 6,000 ladies walk through the night in Weymouth, and together they have helped to raise almost £650,000.

Matt Smith, Weldmar’s Community & Events Fundraising Manager, said “This is our flagship event, which just gets better every year.

“I am always amazed by the incredible atmosphere and we ensure that it is a fun packed night for walkers before, during and after the walk.

“We will be having a party before the walk and will have a fun warm up session before the walkers are set on the way, pounding the streets of Weymouth, all wearing flashing head gear.”

He added: “We had an amazing turn out for our Colour Run in Weymouth a few weeks ago - and have been incredibly touched by the messages of support and the positive feedback.

“It was a wonderful event, and this has meant that we wanted to make sure that all the ladies who attended that event, and wanted to now be part of the Midnight Walk, had extra time to benefit from our discounted Early Bird Fee.”

People can walk as individuals or as part of a big group.

The charity is also looking for people to help out on the night and be marshals’ for the event – more than 120 volunteers are needed to help make the event successful and safe.

Mr Smith said: “The amount of money that is raised from our Midnight Walk is outstanding and it makes all the hard work of months of organising worth it.

“One hundred percent of all sponsorship money goes towards the continuation of care, love and support that we provide in the community, with our new Wellness Services, our social day respite services or as an in-patient at Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester.”
