DELICACIES from Dorset are set to tickle the taste buds at this year's Dorset County Show.

Up to 40,000 people are set to descend on the Dorset Food Hall at this weekend's event, sampling a range of fresh produce from locally caught seafood to hand-painted truffles and barbecued venison burgers.

The food tent is one of the most popular destinations for the show, which is being held on Saturday and Sunday.

Organisers are looking forward to showcasing an array of artisanal producers to another bumper crowd at this year's event.

Dorset County Show secretary Richard Cuzens said: "Many start-ups who make their first major business commitment by taking a stand in the Dorset Food Hall have very often turned out to be the stars of the future.

"It’s really satisfying to know that they gave us the first bite of the cherry and that the Dorset County Show gave them a step up the ladder."

Possible future stars on show at the Dorset Food Hall this year include Langham Wines, which produced English sparking wine in Dorset using the same traditional method as champagne.

Langham Estate winemaker Daniel Ham said: "A vintage bottle of our sparkling wine will give a similar vintage brand such as a Moet and Chandon a real run for its money on taste but at half the price."

Also on offer will be hand-painted treats from The Chocolate Arthouse.

Founder John Tyldesley’s dedication to his art has recently won him a highly prestigious three Gold Star Award at The Great Taste Awards.

John said: "Winning the Great Taste Awards has already opened doors.

"We have a meeting with the confectionery buyer at Selfridges in September so watch this space!"

Show visitors will also be able to try a drop of Dorset Nectar's Old harry Rocks cider from the winners of the Champion British Organic Cider Cup at the Bath and West Show earlier this year.

Founding partner Penny Strong said: "We are delighted at the result, given that there were over 650 cider makers competing from across the world.

"Our customers just can`t get enough of our cider so this year we`re almost doubling production this harvest season to meet demand!"
